PRAIRIE SUITE:
Poems by Robin Enns
1990-2000

summergreen

it was hot
        steamy shimmery
        asphalt mirage hot
and swinging on the old smooth tire
        the little girl
        saw the aspengreen
        quivering leaves
thanking the invisible wind
        for his silvery visit
        whispering reminder
        on her skin
and for bringing goosebumps
impossible reminders
        of cool spring days

waiting

mornings
slight mist
        outside
   can't tell if
it's blue
   or
if it's grey
        outside
feels slate
   great big prairiesweeping
        storm
and so much wider than
this
                tiny
corner, here of green
   spruce pine elm
kelly green corner
        can't tell
yet

november

the terrain
        skittered
                sharded
            splintered
                        echoed
                ached
like unharvested fall cold dry
        stalks of wheat
                uncombined
           unmilled
                unbreaded
                     uneaten
potentials
                gone
        lone
                        bone
                            dry
        ... dust
